For the NHS

I’m proud to be an NHS GP. I believe that practising lifestyle medicine is something we can all do, not from an ivory tower but in in real life, every day, personally and professionally. Most of my week is spent either consulting with patients in my surgery, or working with others across the health and social care sector locally and nationally to help people to start and stay healthy, manage and reverse disease, and live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Living Well Course

Here’s an example of the work our Wellbeing team has done, creating the Living Well Course for NHS patients at high risk of developing serious health problems. It made a real difference to their lives, as you can see from the report and the video feedback.

Related roles

My other paid roles include carrying out appraisals for GPs for their ongoing personal development and providing them with mentoring and support when needed. I am also the lead clinical advisor for Thrive Tribe, an award-winning national healthy lifestyle provider. I am involved in teaching and training other health professionals and speaking at events for organisations such as the Health Education England and the Royal College of General Practitioners. I also carry out occasional advisory board work on healthcare-related issues.

Services

For individuals

To ensure the best possible health and wellbeing, you may need more time, a different approach and deeper conversation than your GP or other health professional is able give you. Combining my expertise as a GP and lifestyle medicine clinician with my experience of coaching and behaviour change, I work with you to create a bespoke, personalised programme depending on your needs and priorities. This is to complement and not replace the care that you get from you GP and does not involve prescribing any medication. I work with trusted colleagues who can also help, including nutritionists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and mental health practitioners.

In your first consultation we would typically cover:
  • Your health concerns, medical and personal history
  • The key pillars of wellbeing: purpose, relationships, sleep, eating well, movement and stress management.
  • The principles of successful behaviour change and goal setting
  • The use of biometric data where helpful (e.g. heart rate variability monitoring)
  • Agreeing on your wellbeing plan and support you need to achieve it
  • The next steps and any follow up arrangements

You can choose a one-off consultation, or a programme of ongoing support from me or other practitioners, depending on what you need. Consultations can be face-to-face or remote, depending on your location and preference. Like you, I’m not a fan of waiting lists, so make an enquiry to see if I’m taking on new patients at the moment. I’ll get back to you quickly.
